Ricardo Martinez, MD, FACEP
President - East Division
Dr. Martinez is a board-certified emergency physician with experience in executive positions in business, academics and the federal government. He is a nationally recognized expert in emergency services, motor vehicle trauma and public health policy and has been honored with national awards by the American Medical Association, the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American Trauma Society and the National Association of EMS Physicians.
Dr. Martinez was elected to the Institute of Medicine in 2004. Since 1988, he has been senior medical advisor to the National Football League for the Super Bowl. He has administrative and clinical experience ranging from complex high-volume academic centers to small isolated rural hospitals. He has implemented and overseen a host of programs in the emergency medicine field, including trauma systems, fast tracks, ED stat labs, helicopter programs, cardiac and neuro response teams, and physician-nurse collaborative practice programs.
Dr. Martinez first described and published the “Martinez Phenomenon” in the New England of Journal in 1991. His philosophy on leadership and management is built upon motivating and empowering people, creating effective teams and crafting strong relationships.
